The Kingdom of Lo (MUSTANG)

Tuesday 9 June, 6.45pm

A Travel Forum talk with Zara Fleming

The tiny Himalayan area of Mustang, closed to westerners until 1992, is an enchanting land of windswept vistas, red walled monasteries and feudal towns, criss-crossed by ancient trade routes between Nepal and Tibet. Its capital, the walled city Lo Manthang, is surrounded by high snow-capped mountains and home to the snow leopard, blue himal sheep and mythical yeti. The trek to reach Mustang takes one beyond the Himalayas on a spectacular journey through a dramatic landscape steeped in Tibetan culture.

Zara Fleming, an expert on Himalayan history and culture, has led many trips to the region including an Asia House trip to Bhutan in October last year. She talks about Mustang s history and considers it as a travel destination.
