The Arzu Rug Collections

Arzu rugs are handmade from naturally-dyed, finely handspun wool. Each rug is a unique work of art celebrating the heritage of Afghan women weavers. Though hundreds of patterns have flourished in Afghanistan over the centuries, Arzu worked with leading rug experts to select those patterns most admired in the global marketplace in order to create the Arzu Rug Collections.

COUTURE COLLECTION

The Couture Collection showcases the most finely woven rugs produced anywhere in the world. The patterns are complex, delicate and intricate, often combining floral themes with subtle geometric patterns. A typical rug contains at least thirteen different vegetable dye colors. The finely handspun wool, combined with the extraordinary weave, creates beautiful rugs of exquisite character reminiscent of traditional Persian pieces.

TRADITIONAL COLLECTION

The Traditional Collection represents Afghan weavers interpretations of floral motifs, highlighting the classic patterns found in Afghanistan and all along the Silk Road. Both Persian and Oriental influences are found in this extensive and diverse collection.

TRIBAL COLLECTION

The Tribal Collection features designs that have been woven for centuries by tribes in the mountains of central Afghanistan. The fine, supple weave has the look and handle of old Caucasian or Turkmen rugs. The rugs predominantly showcase bold, rich colors and geometric patterns.

MODERN COLLECTION

The Modern Collection highlights Afghan women's creativity and artisanship. Many are made from unused wool of other rugs, and the designs are created spontaneously by the weaver, making them distinct from other patterns and weaves. Other rugs in the collection feature bold, innovative patterns and unique designs. The rich textures of the Modern Collection are emphasized by the irregularity in the dyes and the wool, resulting in a collage of hues.

ARZU SIGNATURE RUG

The Arzu Signature Rug, the Pazyryk, is an impressive example of human artistry. Discovered in 1949 and named for the Pazyryk Valley in which it was found, the Pazyryk is the oldest pile rug in the world, dating back to 500 B.C.

Arzu has put the Pazyryk rug design at the forefront of its tribal collection and named it Hope, as a testament to the resiliency of Afghan women weavers. Through their continuous work, these weavers have preserved an ancient art form and cultural tradition.

HOPE BY DESIGNERS COLLECTION

The Hope by Designers Collection signifies art with a conscience. This rug collection unites the designs of creative geniuses and the mission of Arzu to provide a sustainable life for Afghan women and their families.

As the designs move from sketches on the designer s paper to the graph on our Afghan weaver s looms, Arzu staff members act as the link between the visionary and the weavers. The innovative design is translated into a unique piece of art fusing a classic custom with contemporary expression.
