Dental implantation has a purpose of restoration of missing teeth. In most cases, these operations are carried out successfully and the implants may remain installed for many years.

But there is a small percentage of operations that cause problems and side effects of dental implants. For people who are planning to do tooth implantation it will be useful to know about the possible risks and complications after implantation.

  • First, dental implantation is an operational intervention. And this is a significant burden on the human body. If a person has a sick heart or high blood pressure, then the surgery intervention brings an additional risk.
  • Sometimes there are cases when the patient has an allergic reaction to medication (including drugs used for anesthesia) or to the materials of the implant
  • If the right diagnosis and computed tomography weren't performed before the operation, the nerve can be damaged during surgery. Nerve damage can have unpleasant consequences, for example pain long after implantation and numbness (loss of sensitivity) of tissue sites.
  • There are rare cases of infection at the implant site and the development of an inflammatory process around the implant. In most cases, these inflammations can be suppressed by medication.
  • If an implant was installed in a bone of insufficient thickness, the implant may not be firmly fixed, as a result, it can stagger and move. In such cases, removal of an improper implant is required.
  • With non-professional implant placement on the upper jaw, without the preliminary build-up of bone tissue, contact of implants with the maxillary sinus is possible. At the ends of the implant rods in the maxillary sinus, the pathogenic microflora can multiply, which will lead to the frequent occurrence of sinusitis.
  • As a result of implantation, there is an edema of tissues in the jaw area, possibly a short-term rise of the body temperature. These symptoms usually do not pose a serious danger and quickly pass.

The most important conclusion after reading this article is - you should only apply for professional dentists' help and do all the manipulations in a proven clinic. Remember that dental implants is your chance for a healthy and beautiful smile, but only with quality installation and care.
