Why Laser Is a Friend to Your Healthy Gums

The health of our gums is an essential part of having healthy teeth. They play an important role in providing teeth with strength, quality enamel and protection against bacteria. If the gums are not healthy, you will definitely have to treat your teeth too.

However, gums can be also infected by harmful bacteria. They destroy their tissues and launch an inflammatory process that leads to the loss of teeth if not treated properly. These bacteria give us plaque which turns into calculus with time. This is why cleaning it in your dentist’s cabinet regularly is very important.

If you do not pay enough attention to the professional cleaning of your teeth, soon you will have a problem. Your gum tissues can develop pockets or grow in excess. In such cases, cleaning will be not enough – you will need a surgical gingivectomy procedure. It will remove the excessive tissue and prevent serious periodontal pathology development.

Why laser? Because laser allows doing the excision totally bloodless and less traumatically for your gums. Less periodontal tissue suffers in this process than with any other equipment. The wound surface carbonizes, preventing further spreading of the infection over your mouth. The neutralization of the pathogenic flora and hemocoagulation ability are the undoubted benefits of laser work.

Sometimes, gums require curettage because they detach from the teeth. A procedure performed by laser is the most preferable option here. It removes the epithelial cells from the gum pocket walls and vaporize the granulated tissue. The recovery is very fast after this.

Laser technologies is the least invasive technique that maximally preserves the natural tissues of the patient. The wounds after the laser procedure do not bleed, are sterilized and all the post op recovery effects are reduced to a minimum. This is why you should not be afraid of the word “laser” but embrace the new technologies making our life better.
