6 Effective Tips on How to Choose Comfortable Shoes

< Previous | Main | Next >

Walking is likely to be a common denominator in whatever travel you take, whether it's a pleasant and quiet beach retreat or a week-long tour of a few towns. And if you wear the incorrect shoes, you can wind up with blisters, scrapes, or something even worse, such as a foot or ankle injury.

As a result, before you even think about outfits, make sure you have the proper footwear selected. You can also contact a foot doctor to get orthotics to properly measure your feet before buying new shoes. Here is a list of six effective tips on how to choose comfortable shoes.

1. Get your feet measured

While you may go to a store and try on different shoe sizes, coming prepared can save you a lot of time! One method is to measure your feet at home before purchasing online or at a store. It is better to do this step after a long day of walking. Walking has the effect of expanding the size of your feet. If you're searching for shoes that you will wear for the whole day, they shouldn't be too tight towards the end of the day. Additionally, you can also measure your feet while wearing the type of stockings or socks you want to wear.

2. Consider your feet's unique characteristics.

Another factor to consider when buying shoes is if you have low or high arches. A "wet test" can assist you in determining your type. Trace a wet footprint on a piece of paper. You have low arches if you can see the whole sole or a slight bend. Shoes with arch support will be the most comfortable for you. Make sure you don't feel pressure on the upper side if you have high arches.

3. Don’t pay much attention to the size

Don't be concerned about the shoe size. Shoe sizes vary greatly across shoe manufacturers. This is due to the fact that various businesses shape their shoes in different ways. This implies that a size 8 Reebok will not fit like a size 8 Adidas.

4. Shoes with straps or laces are preferred

Slip-on shoes may be easy to put on and take off, but they are not the ideal option for comfort and injury prevention. Ensure your shoes are securely fastened to your feet: adjustable strap sandals and lace-up shoes are ideal. Flip-flops, on the other hand, should not be worn for lengthy periods of walking or standing since they provide very little structure or stability. Most are unable to provide suitable protection over long distances or in more difficult terrain. Some sandals are better built than others, but for a lot of walking, a decent, stable, breathable sneaker is the way to go.

5. Don’t wear too big or too small shoes

If your shoes are too loose, your foot will wiggle, making you uncomfortable. If it fits, you will have enough room for your toes but the shoes will not slip. Blisters and corns can develop because the shoe was either too little or too large for you. Purchase the shoes in the afternoon, when the foot is swollen. This can help you ensure that the size is appropriate for them to wear all day.

6. Shoes should be adjusted to suit the larger foot

Your feet are a bit different. Typically, one foot is somewhat bigger than the other. Purchase the shoe size that corresponds to the bigger foot. Pads or inserts can make up for additional space in a shoe that is too big, but they can't make up for space in a shoe that is too tiny. There is a limit to fitting shoes to the bigger foot. If your feet are more than 1.5 sizes apart, you should buy two pairs of shoes for every foot.
