How to Prolong the Life of Your Dental Implants

Dental implants are the best-acknowledged option for the restoration of teeth. They have a high price for a reason. Implants are designed to be similar to natural teeth and serve even longer. You pay a lot up front, but you receive teeth that may serve you till the end of your life.

Dental implants require a lot of work from your specialist. Of course, you would want this work to have excellent quality, and the specialist to be perfectly trained. You should understand that clinics that are trusted and have a higher reputation, will charge more. You can’t get good dental services for cheap.

Long lasting implants don’t only require the high skill of your dental implant specialist. There are other factors that influence their success. It’s important to not only use them properly but also take good care of them.

How to Take Good Care of Your New Teeth

There are simple rules that will help you enjoy your new teeth without fear of losing them. There’s actually not much to it, just basic things, although for some people even this is too difficult to follow.

Follow the postop instructions

Freshly installed dental implants need time to fuse. During this time, you should be especially careful with them. Your doctor will tell you what you may and what you may not do with them. Do as he or she says because if you won’t, all the work may be gone in vain.

Treat your chronic diseases

If you are not in your elderly age and didn’t lose your natural teeth in an accident, there are big chances that you have a chronic disease that contributed to the loss of your teeth. You may or may not be aware of it, but it’s important to determine and treat it if necessary. If your chronic disease didn’t let you preserve your own teeth, it won’t let you preserve your dental implants either.

What can it be? The list isn’t that long:

  • Systemic disease
  • Blood disease
  • Bruxism
  • Bone degenerative disease
  • Periodontitis
  • Cancer

Of course, not all the diseases from this list can be treated for good, but to provide at least improvement and support for your body is almost always possible.

Maintain proper oral hygiene

If you want dental implants to serve you as your own teeth, take care of them as if they are your own. Poor oral hygiene will cause gum inflammation. An inflamed gum won’t be able to hold your implant and it will become loose over time. You should clean them properly at home and have them cleaned in the office regularly as well.

Check on them regularly

Preventive visits to your dentists is a proven way to provide safety for both your natural teeth and dental implants. Your doctor will notice any possible problems much earlier than you will. Never miss your scheduled appointments.

As you can see, there’s nothing difficult in preserving your dental implants. All you need is care and attention that won’t take much of your time but will help you have excellent oral health.
