To create a beautiful and welcoming home is everyone’s goal. Implementing changes to your living room may be simple, but changes to the exterior of a house are a bit more complicated. A large scale project such as reroofing is a great example of the difference between interior and exterior design. Nonetheless, there are a few things everyone can do to stylize their home to give it some personality.

Front Door

Once you’ve decided to add some character to your house, why not start in the most obvious place? A proper front entrance will be warm and welcoming towards your guests. If the walls of your home are dark, repaint your door a vibrant color, such as red, to break the monotony. And don’t be afraid of bigger modifications. For instance, installing an overhead cover for your entrance. It certainly helps during rainy days, but the appeal is also impressive.

The Right Roof

While this may be a complicated project, choosing the right roof for your home will complete the image you’re going for. The difference between a classic gable roof and, for example, a shed roof is immense when it comes to exterior design. The latter also called a skillion roof, is made of a single, sleek surface and is much more elegant when compared to other types.

If you’re set on a reroofing project, firstly set a budget and check the market. After you’ve found a few choices in your price range, you should consult a proper designer to hear a professional opinion on the matter. The type of roof, as well as its color and material, have to agree with the landscape and the rest of the neighborhood. You don’t want your home to stick out like a sore thumb, do you?

Garage

As it’s something in plain sight, you should dress up your garage as well. If you like vintage accessories, you could adopt the idea of hanging a lantern or two on the sides of your garage door. While it may be old-school, it can create a contrast that will create depth and spark up an otherwise boring façade.

You can also dress up the entrance with an arbor. This will give you space to hang a pot or two of greenery, as well. But even after this, you might notice something is still missing. We’ve given the home itself some touches, but we’ve completely forgotten about the driveway. A dirty and cracked concrete road will only ruin the setting you’re going for. If you’re doubting whether the pavement or a driveway can be stylish and classy, you’ll be surprised. There are groups, such as Elephant Brick Co, that show how beautiful a paved path can be with just a touch of imagination. You don’t want a simple problem such as a dirty driveway to ruin your curb appeal, do you?

Plants

Greenery deserves a spot of its own. Why? The life and appeal which a cared-for garden gives a home are astounding. Countless natural sights in the world are simply breathtaking, and homeowners are doing their best to bring those images to their home. Planting flowers next to the driveway, or simply placing a potted plant on a windowsill is always a stylish move which creates depth. Your choice may be restricted by where you live, but there is a wide variety of colors for every climate.

We’ve touched upon a few ways you can give your home some appeal. While your front door is used the most, people can still see what’s going on in your garden, so be sure not to neglect any aspect of the exterior. What’s most important through all of this, however, is to keep a goal in mind. Ask yourself what style you’re chasing, and try to make all of the pieces fall together. And of course, if you’re lacking ideas or need professional advice, don’t be afraid to ask for help from a friend or a designer.
