The six indigenous demands at COP30

This wiki is locked

Here are the six major demands from the Amazonia Calling initiative / Indigenous Political Declaration for COP30:

  1. Ensure the legal security of Indigenous territories (demarcation, titling, legal protection — including territories of Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (PIACI)).
  2. Adopt and implement direct, flexible, culturally appropriate financing mechanisms for Indigenous Peoples and their organizations.
  3. Declare the Amazon as an exclusion zone from all extractive activities (especially oil, gas and mining), starting with Indigenous Peoples’ territories (including PIACI).
  4. Ensure full and effective participation and representation of Indigenous Peoples at all levels of decision-making processes (within the UNFCCC/COP framework).
  5. Adopt urgent protection measures for Indigenous and environmental leaders, women leaders, and defenders at risk; prioritise prevention/protection protocols coordinated with justice/human rights institutions.
  6. Recognise and integrate Indigenous knowledge systems as legitimate strategies for climate change mitigation, adaptation and environmental restoration.
