Environmental Honors Awarded at the Governors' Global Climate Summit

     The Governors' Environmental and Economical Leadership Awards (GEELA) are California’s most prestigious environmental honor given to those Californians who protect and enhance the environment while promoting economic growth.

     On September 30, the 2009 GEELA celebration took place at the Governors' Global Climate Summit in the Hub Culture Pavilion at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was on hand to personally award this group of innovative companies and individuals for their work in the following categories:

  • Climate Change

  • Children’s Environmental Education

  • Sustainable Practices

  • Ecosystem and Watershed

  • Environmental and Economic Partnerships

  • Comprehensive Land Use Planning

  • Technological and Market Innovation

  • Sustainable Communities

  • Enhanced Environmental and Economic Leadership

The winners were:

  • City of San Jose

  • Disneyland Resort

  • Gills Onions, LLC

  • Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy

  • KIDS for the BAY

  • Kings Hawaiian Bakery

  • Midland School

  • Parducci Wine Cellars

  • PEP Housing

  • Peterson Power system

  • Sudberry Development Inc.

  • Tejon Ranch Company

  • University of California, Merced

  • Yuba County Water Agency

     The event ended the first official day of the three-day Governors' Global Climate Summit, produced by JupiterPx. The summit brings together government leaders, heads of organizations, the scientific community and other stewards of the environment dedicated to finding lasting solutions to global climate change.

     The day began in the Los Angeles Ballroom with a video presentation by actor Harrison Ford that introduced www.teamearth.com and continued on with several other general sessions and breakouts that included international environmental and political luminaries.
