The Glamour Bar at M on the Bund
Back in 1999 restaurant legend Michelle Garnaut began a ten year quest to bring her unique flavour of style and glamour to Shanghai. Her principal restaurant in Hong Kong, M on the Fringe (such pavlova!), was an institution among the city's international community, but it was M on the Bund which shot her to international prominence, coming to the fore as Shanghai itself was making its reconsidered debut on the world stage.

Anyone in Hub Culture who has been to Shanghai has probably been to M on the Bund and its swish cocktail venue, the Glamour Bar. Bathed in pink light overlooking the rapidly evolving Shanghai skyline, M as been, for many years, a fixture in the cultural life of Shanghai.

In January M on the Bund turned ten, and with that, the normally low-key Michelle Garnaut threw an anniversary party to remember. Here are some highlights from a wonderful evening, and a salute from all of us to M on the Bund's accomplishments. After all these years, the team remains personable and friendly, a lasting part of the vibrant imprint of new Shanghai, and a beacon to the world about everything fun Shanghai has to offer.

Sure, it may be more 'grown up' than other locations, and has long since forsaken the flavour of trends, but in so doing has matured into something of a Shanghai institution. Could there be a better result for the once abandoned, derelict building that was No. 5 on the Bund? Not likely.

Congratulations, in vivid pink. Heading to Shanghai soon? Join the Glamour Bar group!
