Art and music fuse at the Whitechapel Gallery s Art Plus Music Party 2010 on Thursday 22 April.

The Whitechapel Gallery s Art Plus Party celebrates the flashpoints of art and other cultural forms in an exceptional one-off event. Whitechapel Director, Iwona Blazwick OBE, Art Plus Chairs, Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst and Jefferson Hack, along with co-host ELLE editor in chief Lorraine Candy, and the committee of leading figures from the arts, fashion, film and music worlds, invite guests to an extraordinary evening of live performance, art and music to raise funds for the Gallery s Education and Community programme by buying tickets at 185 each.

Unmissable collaborations include artist and fashion designer Julie Verhoeven creating a projected artwork to form the backdrop to a performance by Primal Scream s front man Bobby Gillespie, accompanied by Primal Scream guitarist Barrie Cadogan and drummer Darrin Mooney, and special guest Jamie Hince from The Kills.

Artist Doug Aitken stages the London premiere of The Handle Comes Up the Hammer Comes Down, which sees cattle auctioneers from the American Midwest whipping up the crowd, with sounds mixed live by the artist. Twice Mercury Music Prize & multiple Brit Award nominee Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes) will be performing solo with a string quartet for the first time in London, accompanied by a film projection, Jack Pe ate will play a new song written specially for Art Plus Music, and singer and multi instrumentalist Bishi will perform a new piece with an interactive artwork by digital artist Oscar Sol.

The performance finale is the London premiere of Sol is going home by artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and composer Ari Benjamin Meyers, originally premiered as part of Il Tempo del Postino it is inspired by the film Soylent Green and features a 28-piece orchestra playing an excerpt from Beethoven s 6th Symphony.

Celebrity DJs will get the party started with live sets throughout the building by Jefferson Hack, Dan Lywood, Justin Robertson, Matthew Stone, The Voguettes and Nathan Gregory Wilkins.

Guests will also have the opportunity to bid on specially commissioned artworks during an auction. Artists include Varda Caivano, Keith Coventry, Raoul De Keyser, Nathalie Djurberg, William Kentridge, Terence Koh & Michael Stipe, Christian Marclay, Paul McCarthy, Raymond Pettibon, Bridget Riley, Thomas Ruff, Gavin Turk, and Rebecca Warren.

The Art Plus Music Party 2010 will raise vital funds for the Whitechapel Gallery s Education and Community programme that works with over 3,000 children and 30 diverse community groups each year in one of Europe s poorest boroughs.
