Nowadays, people are getting more and more concerned about their smiles. A perfect smile is an essential element in making the first impression. When people experience problems associated with their teeth they tend to look for ways to manage this problem. Thus, if you have cracked, chipped or stained teeth, veneers might be an ideal solution for you.  It is highly important to get aware of all the possible types of veneers before committing to this option. The following section focuses on depicting the most common types of veneers.

Dental veneers

Dental veneers are probably the most commonly used type of veneers. It is also sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates. They are custom-made, wafer-thin shells of tooth-colored materials aimed to cover the front surface of your teeth in order to improve its overall appearance. These shells are applied to the front of your teeth for the purpose of modifying its color, size, shape or length.  Dental veneers are believed to last for at least 10 years. However, specialists claim that if you care about them properly they could last for more than 20 years.

Normally, before you get your permanent veneers, your dentist will apply temporary veneers to your teeth. During this period of time, you will be able to determine whether you are completely satisfied with your veneers and whether any changes have to be made. After you approve your temporary veneers, your doctor will place permanent ones and you will be left with a beautiful smile. Some minor disadvantage of dental veneers is the need for numbing shots or anesthesia aimed to reduce pain during the treatment process. It should be also mentioned that the shape of your natural teeth under veneers will be irreversibly reshaped during application.

One and the most common type of dental veneers are Lumineers. They are the strongest and thinnest dental veneers. Lumineers are also as thick as a contact lens. Its application does not involve any pain and does require any grinding. They are believed to last for more than 20 years and can be reversible if desired.

Composite veneers

This type of veneers is also called bonded veneers, which are a much cheaper and less destructive option for improving the smile. They are normally applied during the first dentist visit. Unlike dental veneers, composite veneers last only for 5 years and they are smoothed and polished to get the look of natural teeth.

Without any doubt, composite veneers will assist you in achieving a perfect smile. However, they are more likely to chip and stain if compared to porcelain veneers. This is a major disadvantage of this type of veneer. Therefore, you have to determine whether you will go for price value or durability.

Palatal Veneers

In the majority of cases, this type of veneer is made of gold. However, as per your request, they can be also produced with the use of porcelain or composite materials. Generally, they are made for the treatment and management of tooth wear. Additionally, they are normally applied to the inside of your upper teeth.

Temporary veneers

They are normally placed before the application of permanent ones and can be easily removed when needed.  Non-permanent veneers are manufactured with the use of a flexible type of resin material or plastic. Temporary veneers can be even purchased for home applications.

As can be seen from all the aforestated, there are a number of options to select from in order to achieve a perfect smile. However, if you want to get a long-lasting result you should definitely go for dental veneers. Even though they are priced higher than other types, their durability and lasting period are also much higher.
