9 Healthy Foods That Should Be Eaten Only in Moderation

< Previous | Main | Next >

25th May 2021

Many people believe that healthy foods can be eaten in any quantity. But even in this case, you run the risk of overdoing it. Yes, it’s possible. It’s important to understand that the most healthy foods are good for you only in moderation, and can become harmful if eaten in excess. So, here is a list of healthy foods that you should consume in moderation in order to avoid negative health effects:

1. Soy

Soy is a good source of protein, especially for those who don’t consume meat and other animal products. But there is some evidence that soy can affect the hormonal background, as it can act as an estrogen in the body. So, consuming too much may exacerbate certain hormonal disorders. You should also be careful with foods like tofu, soy sauce, soy milk, and tempeh if you have any hormone problems.

2. Nuts

Nuts are extremely healthy. They contain a big dose of healthy fats, which can be good for your heart and blood vessels. But you should keep in mind that nuts are 80 percent fat and high in calories. Snacking on a few handfuls to replace unhealthy fats is great, however, consuming too many can lead to weight gain and affect liver function.

3. Avocado

Avocados are powerhouses of healthy monounsaturated fats that help improve skin, nail, and hair health, and even lower bad cholesterol levels, but consuming too many fats of any type is always a bad idea. Plus, many people don’t know that avocados are high in calories (about 250 calories per fruit).

4. Chicken

Chicken is considered lean meat, as it’s low in saturated fat. Chicken also contains healthy proteins, minerals, and vitamins that are good for those who are trying to lose extra weight. But America is the home of factory-farmed chickens, which are often pumped with antibiotics that can be dangerous to humans.

5. Carrots

Carrots can give a host of health benefits, but only if eaten in moderation. Carrots, like most veggies, are full of fiber that helps slow down sugar absorption. However, carrots are actually higher in calories and sugar than any other vegetable. The sugar found in carrots is called sucrose, which is what you’d buy at the grocery store and call table sugar. This type of sugar can have negative health effects and even result in tooth decay. So, to avoid frequent visits to a dental specialist and a root canal procedure, try eating this vegetable in moderation.

6. Pumpkin

Since sugar is not a component of a healthy diet, it would make sense to consume veggies low in sugar, right? Probably not. Although pumpkin is low in sugar, certain pumpkin recipes can still be high in calories. In fact, pumpkin is a fruit, however, it’s often called a vegetable and it can bring benefits when eaten in moderation.

7. Bottled green juices

It’s known that all natural juices are very healthy and help us get the necessary vitamins and minerals. But most bottled green juices are extremely high in sugar that can actually negate all the health benefits.

8. White potatoes

Potatoes can be cooked in different ways. You can boil, roast, fry, or bake them. Of course, potatoes are tasty, however it’s a good idea not to overeat it.

9. Cheese

Just like any dairy product, cheese can provide your body with a dose of calcium and protein that can improve your bone health and heart strength. But consuming cheese piled high onto a pizza or melted into a cheesy potluck appetizer is bad for your health. It’s best to consume cheese in moderation and choose varieties that are lower in fat and salt.
