8 Cosmetic Dentistry Options You May Want to Consider

Dentists define cosmetic dentistry as a type of dentistry that improves a patient's smile. A beautiful smile and healthy teeth are important for a variety of reasons, both aesthetically and in terms of overall health. The appearance of your smile has an impact on your oral health, self-confidence, and how the rest of the world sees you. This is due to the fact that a person's smile is commonly the first thing that people notice about them. Dental veneers, teeth whitening, dental crowns, bridges, bonding, implants, and dentures are examples of restorative and cosmetic dental treatments.

Continue reading to discover the eight cosmetic dentistry options you may want to consider.

1. Gum reshaping
Gum reshaping can help with a "gummy" smile, where the teeth are too short or the gum line is uneven. A little piece of gum tissue (as well as any extra bone tissue if necessary) is removed and shaped to reveal more of the teeth. This technique can be performed on a single tooth to smooth out the gum line or on a group of teeth to reveal a pleasant, broad smile.

2. Bridges
A fixed (permanent) bridge replaces one or more teeth by attaching artificial teeth to crowns on the teeth on each side of the gap. Dental bridge is then installed with special cement. If just one side of the empty area has teeth, a cantilever bridge is used.

3. Dentures
A denture is a removable dental prosthesis that replaces lost teeth and gum tissue. Complete and partial dentures are the two types of dentures available. When all of the teeth are lost, complete dentures are required, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

4. Composite fillings
Wear, chipping, or cracking of existing fillings may require their replacement. Many people take advantage of this chance to replace silver amalgam fillings with natural-looking composites. Their motivating factors could be purely aesthetic, or they could be concerned about the safety of mercury-containing amalgam fillings. In larger cavities, composite fillings wear out faster than silver fillings, yet they are good in small cavities.

5. Teeth whitening
Who doesn't love a sparkling white smile? Toothpaste, mouth rinses, over-the-counter gels, strips and trays, and whitening chemicals purchased from a dentist are among the options for teeth whitening. However, not everyone is a good candidate for whitening. It's best for those who have healthy teeth and gums that haven't been restored. People that have yellow tones in their teeth, rather than gray tones, may get the best results. Consult your dentist to see if teeth whitening is suitable for you.

6. Orthodontics
Braces can straighten crooked or misaligned teeth and improve the health and beauty of any smile, whether it's for an adult or a kid. Braces gradually move teeth into alignment by providing consistent pressure over time. The bony tooth socket changes shape when the teeth move under pressure.

7. Enamel shaping
Enamel shaping, also known as contouring, is a painless and quick way to improve the appearance of natural teeth. It typically fixes minor flaws like uneven teeth or slightly overcrowded teeth. The results are visible right away. Enamel shaping is commonly used in tandem with whitening, veneers, and bonding.

8. Crowns
A crown is a tooth-shaped "lid" that is used to improve the form, size, strength, or look of a weak or injured tooth. Crowns can be composed of metal, porcelain, resin, or ceramic and last for five to fifteen years. The existing tooth is filed down before the crown is set on top of it, completely wrapping the tooth. Onlays and three-quarter crowns only partially cover the underlying tooth.
