Differences, Symptoms, and Prevention of Arthritis and Arthrosis

Both arthritis and arthrosis affect the joints, but they are different diseases. If arthrosis affects only the joints, then arthritis indicates an inflammatory process throughout the body. Inflammation can be caused by infection, abnormalities in the immune system, or a metabolic disorder. This disease often affects not only the joints but also the liver, kidneys, and heart. The age group in which diseases are most common is also different. Arthritis usually appears before the age of 40, while older people suffer from arthrosis.

Symptoms of arthrosis and arthritis

Pain

Pain is one of the main symptoms of both arthrosis and arthritis. However, the nature of pain in these diseases varies. In the case of arthrosis, pain is manifested mainly only during movement and with a strong physical load. It may not be very strong in the first stage of the disease. This is why people often don’t attach any importance to this illness.

In the second stage, the pain manifests itself even with a small load. In the third stage, it hurts even while resting. However, it can decrease if a person manages to take a comfortable position. But in the case of arthritis, the pain does not subside even during rest. Night pains between three and five o'clock in the morning are especially characteristic of arthritis.

Decreased mobility and stiffness

In the case of arthrosis, the range of motion in the affected joint is reduced. Arthritis is characterized by stiffness of the whole body or joint.

Deformation

The appearance of the joint changes in arthrosis but there is no swelling, as in arthritis. Symptoms of arthritis can be inflammation, swelling, the appearance of dense nodules, an increase in temperature at the site of inflammation (it can be hot to the touch).

Crunch

Crunch in arthrosis occurs due to the destruction of the cartilage layer and bone friction. If your joints sometimes crunch, there is no reason to panic. The crunch of arthritis has a peculiar sound like a rough, dry click. The higher the stage, the stronger the crunch in the joint.

Inflammation of the joints in arthritis can also be accompanied by:

  • temperature increase
  • psoriasis
  • eye inflammation
  • chills or excessive sweating
  • weakness
  • secretions from the genitals

Prevention of arthritis and arthrosis

Moderate Exercises

Any moderate exercises help to reduce weight, increase blood circulation, and strengthen the muscular system. This is very important for the prevention of arthrosis and arthritis. However, be careful here. Excessive stress on the joints, injuries or improper technique of some exercises can lead to problems. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct classes with a doctor or instructor.

You can perform the so-called joint exercises for the prevention of arthritis and arthrosis. It is quite simple and does not require any special equipment. Activities in the pool are also good because the water provides a lighter load on the joints.

Note! If you already have arthrosis or arthritis, you can do exercises only after consulting a knee pain specialist. The physiotherapist will develop an individual training program for you.

Proper nutrition

Your attitude to nutrition is also worth reviewing. It is better to refuse red meat and foods with high-fat content for the prevention of arthrosis and arthritis. Try to eat more fish, seafood, vegetables, and fruits. Cartilage and gelatin are also good for bones. Doctors recommend increasing water consumption to two or three liters per day.

It’s better to give up alcohol and start taking vitamins (groups A, B, D). The protection of the joints from hypothermia, wearing shoes with a comfortable heel, healthy lifestyle, and elimination of stress can also prevent arthrosis and arthritis.
