Opening up your medicine might be a bit of a nightmare. You might have nothing there except toothpaste, or cracking it open could release a cascade of old pill bottles and empty nail polish tubes. A well-stocked medicine cabinet is crucial to have in your home—whether an emergency strikes or you just have a mild upset stomach. So how prepared are you? Below are the top 10 products you should have in your medicine cabinet (or at least on hand somewhere in your house).

CBD

If you use prescription medications to treat joint pain or other ailments, then consider keeping CBD products in your medicine cabinet. CBD or cannabidiol is derived from the hemp plant and contains only a small trace of THC (not enough to produce the euphoric high associated with smoking marijuana). CBD products like full spectrum cbd oil 1000mg, CBD oil tincture, and topical creams are known for their positive effects in regards to providing joint pain relief, reducing anxiety, and helping with epilepsy.

Collagen

Keep a collagen protein product in your medicine cabinet to support skin health and joint health. Collagen is a family of proteins that are the foundation of connective tissues. Our bodies have 28 different types of collagen, which are broken down by their amino acids. The human body naturally produces its own collagen. The body's natural collagen production slows down as we age, resulting in dry skin, wrinkles, and weakened hair. Taking a collagen supplement, like collagen powder or a collagen peptide in your smoothies, can help with maintaining healthy hair and skin.

Sunscreen

The best way to defend against skin cancer and aging is by using sunscreen daily. Every time you are outside—no matter if the weather is cloudy or sunny—put on sunscreen. By always having a bottle of sunblock in your medicine cabinet, you'll remember to put some on before you leave the house.

Bandages

Cuts and scrapes happen. So make sure to have plenty of adhesive bandages stored in your medicine cabinet. Bandages help stop bleeding and also provide physical protection for an open wound.

Antibacterial Ointment

Going along with bandages, have a tube of antibacterial ointment or cream on hand to prevent infections for cuts, scrapes, abrasions, and insect bites.

Pain Relievers

Aches and pains come with life so keep essential over-the-counter painkillers like aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen in your medicine cabinet. These medications also help reduce a fever as well. However, take note that certain painkillers work for each person differently, so assess your family's needs before deciding what to purchase.

Tweezers

You might associate tweezers with plucking eyebrows, but this tool is also useful in taking care of pesky ticks and splinters that get stuck under your skin.

Decongestants

If you're feeling congested due to a cold, then having a decongestant around is helpful in treating the congestion and associated symptoms. Decongestants with phenylephrine or pseudoephedrine work best but are only sold by a pharmacist—not over-the-counter. This is because pseudoephedrine can be used to make methamphetamine, or more commonly referred to as meth. Beware of over-the-counter decongestants though, which should only be used for three days, after that your body might become dependent on the drug.

Anti-Itch Cream

Keep a bottle of calamine lotion or 1% hydrocortisone cream in your medicine cabinet to treat itchy bug bites, skin rashes, or any other sort of skin irritation like minor burns or irritation caused by costume jewelry.

Thermometer

A thermometer is a necessity to keep track of your temperature. However, avoid glass thermometers as they contain mercury. Instead use a digital thermometer, which is cheap and easy to find.
