The Social Gastronomy Movement: Food Solidarity Gathering

Article Image
From 16th - 23rd October, the Social Gastronomy Movement (SGM) will be hosting a week-long SGM Food Solidarity Gathering, a series of virtual online events focused on Food Solidarity.

Divided into different themes and presented in various session formats, the sessions will be led by community members around three pillars: Co-Creating Action, Valuable Learnings, and Meaningful Dialogue. The overarching theme of the online gathering will be on Food Solidarity, which is when we collectively engage with the human side of the food cycle and work toward a shared goal of food security, equitable, and universal access to healthy food, and freedom from hunger for everyone.

The Food Solidarity Gathering agenda and list of speakers and contributors from around the world can be found at: https://socialgastronomy.org/gathering.

The gathering will be hosted via Zoom and Registration to watch is completely free!

“The fact that almost 700 million people are chronically hungry across the world suggests that our food systems are not robust enough to meet the needs of large sections of society. WFP acutely understands the human impact of broken food systems because this is where we work, every day. Turning the tide in the global hunger crisis requires international cooperation and broad community engagement to make our global food systems more sustainable and ensure that they work for everyone”- Corinne Woods, Director of Communications, Marketing and Advocacy, UN World Food Programme (WFP).
