The organic world has always intrigued me. I love to explore the shapes, textures and different layers of nature. I do so by scrutinizing and capturing the essence - by freezing a particular moment in time where all the elements come together in perfect unison and create that desired "Instant décisif", so fleeting that it only lasts a sixtieth of a second, as Henri Cartier-Bresson stated.
For this project I chose to freeze certain natural elements and investigate their evolution over the course of time. The objects were preserved under ice, due to their ability to tolerate prolonged periods of time at temperatures below the freezing point of water. Cryobiology, which is derived from the Greek words Kryos, “cold” and Bios “life, is a personal case study on preservation and transformation.
