As a centre of trade throughout the Silk Road era, Afghanistan's rug making has benefited from influences, techniques and patterns from east and west resulting in this unique legacy. The legacy emerges from generations of weavers that Arzu continues to promote and a tradition they help to preserve in the country today within communities of women, the traditional carpet weavers.

Today Arzu keeps that tradition alive helping Afghani women acquire the materials and production needed to take their handmade work to the world marketplace for their own benefit. This article speaks of the particular fibers and dyes used and specific knot counts from the Afghan weaving tradition.
